Lithuanian PM announces resignation triggering government to collapse
He is set to submit his official resignation to President Gitanas Nauseda, who is expected to nominate a new prime minister within the next 15 days. Following parliamentary approval, the new prime minister will have another 15 days to propose a cabinet and outline a government program.
The ruling coalition, made up of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), Nemunas Dawn, and the Democrats “For Lithuania,” currently holds 86 seats in the 141-member parliament. This coalition is anticipated to undergo some changes once the new government forms.
Paluckas’s decision to resign both as prime minister and leader of the LSDP came after President Nauseda gave him a two-week deadline to address allegations concerning his previous business dealings and ethical concerns, urging him either to clarify the accusations publicly or resign.
