Thirty Lithuanian hotels join class action lawsuit against Booking.com
The executive director of the Association of Lithuanian Restaurants and Hotels, Egle Lizaityte, confirmed that Lithuanian establishments officially joined the case at the end of July. She added that the window for other hotels to participate has been extended until August 29.
This coordinated legal action is being led by the European Association of Hotels, Restaurants, and Cafes (HOTREC). According to the organization, Booking.com's “price parity” clause—used for over 20 years—has prevented hotels from offering more competitive rates on their own websites. As a result, hotels have faced inflated commission fees and a stifled competitive environment in the online travel agency market.
The lawsuit has gained further momentum from a September 2024 ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), which determined that such clauses violate EU competition regulations. This decision is expected to play a key role in strengthening the legal case against the booking platform.
